Geneen Bednarik, DVM

Veterinarian

Dr. Geneen Bednarik grew up regularly watching Joan Embery - goodwill ambassador to the San Diego Zoo's Zoological Society - with her grandma. This instilled a deep love of animals and a passion for the veterinary field early, directing her path in education and life. Growing up in Northeast Ohio and graduating from Mentor High School, Dr. Bednarik began her path of being a veterinarian by attending The Ohio State University for pre-veterinary courses and obtained her Bachelors of Science in Biology from Cleveland State University. Then she headed south, to the island of St. Kitts and Nevis, attending Ross University of Veterinary Medicine and obtaining her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2000.

Dr. Bednarik is an advocate for pediatric spay & neuter with the goal of decreasing the population of unwanted pets, and works full time in shelter medicine to advocate for those animals who are most at risk of being forgotten. Dr. Bednarik’s love of animals follows her home, where she plays housekeeper, provider, playmate and chief snuggler to four rescue cats: Double Stuff and Spot, the old men; and Fat Mardi (her profile picture) and Ichi, the boys. She enjoys reading with a cat or two in her lap, but when the cats give her some time off, she enjoys spending it with friends and family, and has a close relationship with her mom, sister, and nephews.
