New Third-Party Prescription Policy
Hi friends!
As veterinary professionals and animal lovers, your pet’s health and safety are our primary concern. In recent years, online pharmacies have become more popular, thanks to the convenience of ordering online and receiving medications delivered to your home. With time and increased use came repeated, confirmed, reports of these pharmacies engaging in dubious business practices related to the acquisition and distribution of products and personal data.
In response to these concerns, effective June 1, 2024, we will only offer written prescription approvals for third-party online pharmacy requests. In an effort to minimize inconvenience to our clients, we launched our own online pharmacy, in February of this year, to provide the same benefits: 24-hour ordering, at-home delivery, and competitive pricing, while retaining the integrity of the distributor already providing our clinic with your pet’s medication. You can search available items, and request prescriptions by visiting: https://pethospitalofwilloughby.ourvet.com/pet/
We will continue to carry the most common prescriptions you may need for your pet in the clinic, and are excited to expand our offerings through our new online pharmacy, but you may always obtain these items through a pharmacy of your choosing! If you would prefer to obtain your pet’s prescription from another online or local pharmacy, we will provide a written prescription, which can be picked up from our clinic, so that you can provide it to your pharmacy of choice.
- If you need a written prescription while you are at the clinic with your pet, please tell us at the beginning of your visit, so we begin processing your request as soon as possible.
- To request a written prescription from home, you can call us, email us, or go to our website to submit your request. Please specify that you are requesting a written prescription and if approved, we will have your written prescription ready to be picked up in our office as soon as possible, generally within 24-72 hours.
We may contact you prior to approving a prescription if we need more information. We reserve the right to decline any prescription that is deemed unnecessary or unsafe for your pet’s wellness.
Note that many prescriptions for chronic conditions (such as medications for thyroid disease, heart disease, seizures, endocrine disease, and pain management) require routine physical exams and lab work to ensure that the treatments are working as expected.
We encourage you to be careful with your pet’s medications, and their distribution source. Only use pharmacies that you know and trust. You can search up a pharmacy’s practice license online and whether any legal actions are posted against its business license.
Thank you for your patience and understanding, and for trusting us as a partner in your pet’s wellbeing.
